Grant Proposal- M. Jackson

As a student teacher, I had the opportunity to become an advisor for the DECA club (http://www.deca.org/about/) and write a grant proposal for the club.  The grant was through the Snowshoe Foundation (http://snowshoefoundation.org) who's goal was to help organizations within nearby counties.  When we were notified that we were being considered for the grant, we also had to give a presentation to the Snowshoe Foundation Board of Directors.  We were awarded $1,000 to help fund expenses for DECA competition travel costs and an annual community service project.
The Snowshoe Foundation continues to help local organizations and I felt since I already had success with our school being awarded a grant this would likely be a doable grant.  (I currently am not working for the Randolph Technical Center so I did not contact the Snowshoe Foundation to request a current Funding Application and instead used my past version.)

Funding Application Form
The Snowshoe Foundation is dedicated to the financial investment of the communities within Pocahontas, Randolph and Webster Counties, WV. Programs and individuals supported are in the areas of health, human services, education, recreation, the arts, culture and the environment, with an emphasis on children, youth and family programs.

Support from the Snowshoe Foundation is given in the form of cash grants. The Foundation typically supports funding for capital assets like construction, equipment and supplies as well programmatic funding. This does not preclude funding of programs well suited to our mandate. Funding is not provided for salaries, nor for post graduate scholarships. There is a separate and different application for higher education scholarships.

Please complete this application form and submit along with any additional information you deem necessary for our Allocation Committee by Monday, September 27, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. Faxed applications will NOT be accepted. All applications and supporting documents must be in the Snowshoe Foundation offices, located in the Human Resources Department of Snowshoe Mountain or postmarked prior to September 27, 1020.

The application may not exceed 10 pages, if over 10 pages, it will not be reviewed. After reviewing all applications
received by the deadline, the Board of Director’s may call you/your organization representative in for an interview between
the dates of October 14 and October 22. The Board will finalize allocations approximately November 3, 2010 with
announcement and distribution of funds taking place on or before November 8, 2010..

The Randolph Technical Center (RTC) provides a variety of classes, including but not limited to, Business Computer Applications, Web Design, Game Design, Accounting as well as various trade classes.  The accounting classes are very popular for college bound students especially interested in business, accounting and entrepreneurship.  The Randolph Technical Center offers these classes to students at Elkins High School, Tygarts Valley High School and Harman School.  The students have been able to learn accounting concepts through text and work sheets but have not been taught to use electronic accounting software.  Charles Triplett, local CPA, owner of Triplett Accounting and Tax LLC and adjunct accounting professor at Davis & Elkins College, says the majority of local businesses use QuickBooks.

Virtually every area of employment in Randolph County can boast a graduate employed in professional, non-professional, technical and skilled careers. Approximately 56% of our graduates continue their education; another 42% become employed within the first three years following graduation.  Technological advances have been included in our career/technical training: we are keeping up with the 21st century technology.
The Randolph Technical Center was named as a WV School of Excellence by the WV Department of Education.  This honor was attained by the school for outstanding instructional practices, policies, and programs which foster the development of high achieving students in reading, math, problem solving, and expertise in various career fields.  The Randolph Technical Center is very proud to have been named a School of Excellence.
