Module 3 Leadership by Jodee

What I found to be very interesting after reading the ISTE, NBPST &WVPTS was that all of their leadership standards were last in their list of general education.standards. I thought this sad in the sense that it seemed to me to be an after-thought. Oh yeah, we should do something to get the teachers engaged.I think in this day and age of increasing technology , that the teachers are sharing this information and the school boards are just catching up.

I have been a professor for a very short time and before that I worked in hospitals as a respiratory therapist. I find I depend heavily on the senior faculty for guidance and leadership. I, in turn share my experiences and knowledge with newer faculty. My Dean and assistant Dean are half/half administration and teaching. I find that their knowledge and experience invaluable. I feel if I had to start a program, I would rely heavily on the experience and knowledge of whomever was willing to share. Instead of designating specific people, I would have regularly scheduled mini-seminars to share what is new or changing or what would help facilitate our classes. We all have different skill sets that can be shared and expanded upon.

In the school of Health careers our Deans are most supporting in their leadership roles and encouraging us to try new venues. We already use 'distributed leadership'. We use committees and are responsible for leading that particular chair. They are also very supportive to attend conferences and share our experiences. I feel we have a good leadership environment.

I'm pretty sure that if Fairmont State has PDCs so will Pierpont. I'm just not sure that's what they are called. Again we use PLCs but they are called faculty development week in fall and spring.During these weeks faculty leaders from all aspects of the college come forth and share their experiences in many different venues of education.
