Where do the ISTE, NBPTS, and WVPTS "speak" to or promote teacher leadership,
particularly leadership for technology integration?
Teacher leadership is promoted in the ISTE standard "Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership." These teachers participate in learning communities, whether local or nationally, to gather and share ideas about technology integration and bring those ideas back to their school. They also develop the leadership and technology skills of their colleagues; they serve as the "go to" person when someone needs assistance integrating technology into their classroom. These teachers also evaluate and reflect on research to make the best use of the digital resources available.
The NBPTS views the leadership of accomplished teachers as a vital factor of student and school success. They have gathered feedback from more than 5,000 educators to reflect on what is going on in the schools and what is needed to create a culture of learning and support. Their vision is to develop, recognize, and retain top leaders.
WVPTS Standard 1 emphasizes the use of 21st century skills to go beyond a provider of knowledge; to promote creativity and innovation in our students. Standard 4 focuses on self improvement in the digital society. Colleagues examine each others' lessons and contribute to learning as a member of a collaborative team. The teachers demonstrates characteristics of informal teacher leadership. Even if they don't have a formal leadership role they are passionate to improve teaching and leading by example. Standard 5 emphasizes working to improve the school in which you work. Using the strategic plan as a guide, the teacher contributes to the mission of the school. The teacher works with colleagues, administrators, and parents to bridge a connection between the community and the school. They contribute to positive changes in policy.
