Where do the ISTE, NBPTS, and WVPTS “speak” to or
promote teacher leadership, particularly leadership for technology integration?
The ISTE promotes teacher leadership and
professional growth through Standard 5, this standard states that “Teachers continuously
improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership
in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the
effective use of digital tools and resources.”
The NBPTS promotes teacher leadership through
Proposition 5: Teachers are Members of Learning Communities. These teachers
know how to work with others to improve student learning, how to build
connections with community and businesses, and how to work collaboratively with
parents for the benefit of the school. These teachers also know how to work
with professionals on policies, curriculum development, and staff development
and they know how to evaluate school progress and how to use resources
effectively to meet objectives set locally and by the state.
The WVPTS promotes teacher leadership through
Standard 4: Professional Responsibilities for Self-Renewal. Basically the
teacher is involved in a continuous cycle of improvement which is focused on
how he or she teaches in a digital society. Teachers are also responsible for
involving colleagues to examine each other’s instruction in order to make
changes to instruction. This helps the teachers to discover better practices
and to be supported by colleagues which helps teachers to become better
informal teacher leaders.
